What is Ear Candling?
Ear Candling (also known as Thermal Auricular Therapy) is a pleasant and non-invasive treatment of the ears, used to treat a variety of conditions. The ear candles induce a revitalizing heat upon the head and ears, which soothes, relieves and relaxes. It is a deeply relaxing and calming treatment in cases of anxiety and stress.
It is an ancient and natural therapy handed down by many civilizations. However, the practice reached the modern world via the Native American Indian tribe known as Hopis or Peace People. The candles work on a chimney principle, drawing any impurities to the surface where they can be gently removed. They balance the pressure in the head and ears, making them suitable for most conditions. Secretion flow is gently stimulated and the vapor collects and removes impurities or deposits. The lymph system and metabolism are improved. Psychological and spiritual benefits have also been associated with the treatment
What are some of the benefits?
Many people experience an improvement in hearing and a wider perception of tones, sinus headaches and migraines may decrease, removal of excess ear debris from nerve endings, detoxification of the sinus and lymph system, sharpening of mental functions, and help with equilibrium problems.
Earaches
An earache can ensue due to a multitude of conditions. The most significant ones are inflammations and lacerations, which may cause considerable pain to your ear canals. Most people opt to take medications, but these often have side-effects that may be unpleasant. Thus, a good alternative for an earache can be ear candling. The warmth inside the ear will cause earwax to fall off, giving the bacteria less space to breed and spread. When it comes to inflammations, the soothing warmth will calm the tissue and reduce any unpleasant sensations.
Swimmer’s Ear and Infections
Swimmer’s ear affects a lot of people each year. When water gets trapped inside the ear canal, the germs and particles within the liquid can cause a severe infection. This can result in pain, discomfort and most cases, an inability to fall asleep. When administering an ear candle, your ear canal will spread because of the heat, causing the water to disappear. Also, the additional wax may fall off, causing the bacteria to be unable to find refuge inside the earwax cavities.
Sinus Infections
Sinus problems are often connected with your hearing, as the two parts of your head are connected. The middle ear is attached to the back of the nose with a small canal. This means that your ears could easily suffer if your sinuses are not exactly okay. Since sinuses are harder to reach, the best possible options are attacking the infection from the ears. Ear candling is known to relieve you of infections in as little as two days. As the warmth successfully eradicates the symptoms in your ear, the sinuses will soon follow suit. It’s a quick and natural way to improve your health.
Rebalances Your Mental State
Clogged up ear canal can often cause difficulties when it comes to listening and concentrating. Since you can’t hear well, your brain has to invest a lot more effort in just receiving information. Instead of processing it, your mind mainly focuses on trying to listen to the words correctly. Such a problem may impact your professional and personal life. With ear candling, you will have clear canals and no problems hearing all the sounds around you. A simple change like this will make you feel calmer, more concentrated and balanced. It’s a worthwhile investment for your well-being.
Stress
Stress has a lot to do with the inner workings of your head. One of the main culprits may be a lack of relaxation and calmness. It’s easy to get lost in the competitive day-to-day life, but we have to take some time and relax. Ear candling does just that. Amongst other benefits, you get to lie down, think about something beautiful and enjoy the warmth of your ear canals. It does wonder for built up tension.
What can I expect during and after the session?
Following an initial consultation, the client will be asked to lie on their side on a massage table. The practitioner then gently and carefully inserts a candle into the ear opening. The candle will be lit and the essential oils from it infuse into the ear. A low-level vacuum generated will draw ear wax and other loose matter out of the ear cavity and into the end of hollow candle.
You will experience a pleasant crackling sound as the candle burns and a warm comfortable feeling. When the ear candling procedure is complete a waxy substance is normally left inside the base of the candle. Nothing is removed from the ear during the treatment but some may find a slight discharge from the ear afterwards as compacted ear wax may become loose and drain away. Following with a lymphatic drainage around the lymph nodes of the neck and face.
How often should Ear Candling be done?
For wellnes, we suggest 3 coning treatments 7 days apart. This relaxing process takes about 30 minutes. It is suggested you cone in groups of three for best results.
Sometimes the results are immediate and other times manifest during the days after candling.
Ear candling is not a cure-all, but is an ancient holistic process that has proven itself.
For maintenance, ear candling is received at the change in the seasons, four times annually. During allergy, cold and flu season, weekly ear candling may be helpful.
